Beginning Orchestra (String)

After completing Semester 1 students will be able to…
·        
 i     -identify the parts of the instruments and parts of the bow.
·         -demonstrate proper playing position and bow hold.
·         -identify parts of the staff.
·         -read, notate and play all A, D, G, and C or E string notes.
·         -read, notate, and play quarter notes, eighth notes, whole notes, half notes, dotted half notes, and their corresponding rests.

After completing Semester 2 students will be able to…
·        
            - tune their own instruments one string at a time.
·         -identify and draw finger patterns.
·         -play and notate key signatures for CM, GM, and DM scales.
·         -watch and follow a conductor.
·         -identify and perform articulation symbols such as slurs, ties, staccatos, and hooks.
·         -identify and perform dynamics.
·         -sightread simple exercises.


 Intermediate Orchestra

After completing semester 1 students will be able to…
·          
      -effectively demonstrate all beginning techniques
·         -effectively demonstrate all beginning written theory.
·         -perform extensions
·         -read, notation and play dotted rhythms, 16ths, and syncopations.

After completing semester 2 students will be able to…
·          
       -play in 6/8 time.
·         -play and notate key signatures for AM, B flat Major, E flat Major, d minor, and g minor scales.
·         -perform a solo or ensemble work for the class.


Advanced Orchestra

After completing semester 1 students will be able to…
·        
           -effectively demonstrate all beginning and intermediate playing techniques.
·         -effectively demonstrates all beginning and intermediate written theory.
·         -demonstrate a knowledge of shifting.
·         -demonstrate a knowledge of vibrato. 
·         -tune their instruments with only the pitch A given.

After completing semester 2 students will be able to…
·         
           -play two octave scales.
·         -notate and play all minor scales.
·         -perform a solo or ensemble work for the class.
·         -demonstrate spiccato bowings.
